About Harbor Helm

Finding Support Shouldn’t Be Another Burden

Harbor Helm began with one family’s search for support and a belief that no family should have to navigate disability services alone.

Our purpose

Finding support should feel clearer.

We’re building a clearer path to disability services, so families can spend less time searching and more time focused on the people they love.

The challenge

Families often piece together information from websites, directories, referrals, and calls, without knowing what is current or whether a program can meet their needs.

Our response

Harbor Helm brings useful information together to help families understand their options and gives providers a clearer way to share their programs, supports, and reported availability.

Our Founder's Story

Where It All Began

Before Harbor Helm was a company or even an idea, I was helping care for my brother, Zach. I saw how much effort it took to coordinate support, research programs, and call providers just to understand our options. Caring for someone was personal. Finding the right care became a daily challenge.

Caregiving taught me about responsibility, independence, and the importance of good support. Needs change. Services have to fit. Families and providers need to communicate. I learned that while caring for someone comes from the heart, navigating a fragmented system can take time and energy away from the person who needs care.

We sorted through outdated information, unclear websites, and listings that rarely answered basic questions about openings, eligibility, funding, waivers, staffing, communication support, or location. Getting answers often meant another call. Because providers shared information differently, families were left to research and coordinate just to compare options.

Caring for Zach showed me that finding care and finding the right care are different things. Staffing, communication, environment, distance, and availability all shape whether a program is a good fit. Most of all, the people providing care matter. What works for one person may not work for another. Harbor Helm is being built to help people find care that fits their needs and priorities.

My professional path took a few turns. Through hands-on work and growing interests in technology, data, AI, and finance, I began to see our family’s experience in a new way. I kept coming back to one question: Why is finding the right disability services still so difficult?

That question became Harbor Helm. I envisioned a search that starts with the person: what they need, what matters most, and where they can be flexible. Providers could share clear information about their programs, supports, locations, and availability. Families could narrow their options and focus on meaningful conversations about fit.

Harbor Helm began with our family, and we’re building it for the many families, caregivers, and providers facing similar challenges. Technology can make the path clearer, while the relationships and judgment at the heart of good care remain human. Our goal is to help people spend less time navigating the system and more time focused on one another.

What guides us

Principles Built Into the Product

Our standards shape what we collect, how we present it, and where we draw clear boundaries.

Explain the reasoning

People deserve to understand why information and recommendations are shown. Harbor Helm makes the needs, preferences, and service details behind results easier to see.

Requirements before preferences

A strong preference match should never outweigh a known concern involving safety, access, communication, mobility, funding, or essential support.

Transparency builds trust

We are clear about what is confirmed, what may have changed, and what remains unknown instead of presenting assumptions as facts.

Privacy by design

Finding support should not require sharing more personal information than necessary. People stay in control of what they choose to provide.

People remain in control

Technology can organize complex information, but decisions belong to the people who know the individual best.

Accuracy is ongoing

Services, staffing, and availability change. Freshness indicators and simple correction paths are part of the product from the start.
